Naturalization is the process by which lawful permanent residents (green card holders) become U.S. citizens. As a U.S. citizen, you gain the right to vote, obtain a U.S. passport, sponsor family members for immigration, and enjoy full protection under U.S. law.
The naturalization process involves filing Form N-400, passing English and civics tests, attending a USCIS interview, and taking the Oath of Allegiance. Zubkoff Law has helped hundreds of clients successfully navigate this process and achieve their dream of U.S. citizenship.
To qualify for U.S. citizenship through naturalization, you must meet these requirements:
You must have been a lawful permanent resident (green card holder) for at least 5 years, or 3 years if married to a U.S. citizen.
You must have continuously resided in the United States for the required period without taking trips abroad longer than 6 months.
You must have been physically present in the U.S. for at least 30 months out of the 5 years (or 18 months out of 3 years if married to a U.S. citizen).
You must demonstrate good moral character, which includes no serious criminal history, paying taxes, and supporting the U.S. Constitution.
You must be able to read, write, and speak basic English, and pass a civics test covering U.S. history and government (exemptions apply for certain age groups).
You must be willing to support and defend the U.S. Constitution and take the Oath of Allegiance.
During your naturalization interview, you'll take two tests: an English test and a civics test.
You'll read one sentence aloud on an iPad. The test continues to change, so preparation is key.
You'll write one sentence on an iPad as dictated by the USCIS officer.
We provide practice sheets to help you prepare!
The current test has 125 questions covering U.S. history, government, geography, and symbols.
The USCIS officer will ask you up to 20 questions from the list of 125.
You need to answer at least 12 out of 20 questions correctly to pass.
We coach you for your interview and provide study materials!
We review your immigration history, criminal record, and travel to confirm you meet all requirements.
We prepare and submit your N-400 application with all supporting documents. Filing fee: $760 (as of 2026).
USCIS schedules you for fingerprinting and photos (usually 4-8 weeks after filing).
Attend your USCIS interview where you'll take the English and civics tests. We prepare you with practice materials and coaching.
